A personal message from D. Patrick Miller
I became a student of A Course in Miracles in 1985, shortly after falling ill with a mysterious ailment that was later identified as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). The Course was instrumental in the changes of heart and mind that I needed to experience in order to recover, a process that I’ve written about in a Sense & Spirituality article entitled “My Healing Journey Through Chronic Fatigue Syndrome” (originally published in Yoga Journal).
I worked as a journalist prior to the spiritual process that was initiated by my encounter with ACIM. After ten years of research and interviews with many teachers and students, I published The Complete Story of the Course, the first comprehensive history and overview of ACIM. In 2008 my revision of that title was published by Celestial Arts as Understanding A Course in Miracles: The History, the Message, and the Legacy of a Spiritual Path for Today.
In 2003, I published Gary Renard’s first book, The Disappearance of the Universe, under the Fearless Books imprint (it is now published by Hay House). I’ve also consulted with other Course teachers on their writing and publishing projects, including Jon Mundy and Robert Perry. Through the years I’ve interviewed many other ACIM teachers and students, including Bill Thetford, Judy Skutch, Ken and Gloria Wapnick, Marianne Williamson, Roger Walsh and Frances Vaughan. I’ve also interviewed critics of the Course, and kept a curious eye on the obvious and subtle ways that this teaching has influenced the world. I’ve spoken at a number of Course conferences and participated in study groups both large and small.
I’ve studied a number of spiritual and psychological perspectives besides ACIM, including Jungian depth psychology, Zen Buddhism, the Sufi teachings, and the Enneagram system of personality development. But A Course in Miracles has always been at the center of my spiritual life. On a daily basis I still find the Course both a comfort and a challenge. If you’re struggling with the challenging aspects of ACIM, or would just like to know more about it from a factual point of view, I’ll be happy to share as much as I understand. If you’ve not yet read my book, I’ll send you a signed copy as part of our consultation or coaching relationship. Just write me at acim@fearlessbooks.com and let me know how I might be able to help you along in your own journey of understanding the Course.
Yours for everyday miracles,
“Patrick is a gentle and compassionate teacher, with the ability to explain the mystical and reveal the metaphysical in a clear and concise manner.... He shares his knowledge with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, in loving service to the world.” — IYANLA VANZANT, from the Foreword to Understanding A Course in Miracles
“Many questions are asked about A Course in Miracles and in order for us to have a more comprehensive understanding of this wonderful spiritual study, its origins and history, I’ve requested that students in my classes consider reading Understanding ACIM. Extensive research has been put into this book and is presented with extreme clarity. And as for the author… the first time I saw him, I witnessed in him the message of gentleness. Proudly I claim my friendship with D. Patrick Miller and have great admiration for his consistency and integrity.” — SHARON SHERRARD, ACIM teacher at Unity in Marin, Novato CA
